The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has addressed growing speculation about his political future.
He dismissed claims that he is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wike made his position clear while responding to questions about recent defections rocking the PDP.
The former Rivers State governor insisted that the movement of other politicians to the ruling party does not affect his personal decision.
“I’m Still A PDP Member – Wike”
“The fact that people are defecting to the APC does not mean I have to defect. I am a member of the PDP, which is why I am still there.”
Nyesom Wike spoke on Monday during his end-of-the-year media chat. The minister said his loyalty to the PDP remains unchanged, despite the political tension surrounding his role in the current administration.
Wike explained that political alignment should not be driven by pressure or public speculation.
He noted that his involvement in the federal government does not automatically translate to a change in party membership.
According to him, governance and party politics should not always be mixed. He maintained that his appointment as FCT minister was based on competence and experience, not defection.
Moreover, the former governor has been at the center of defection rumours following his open support for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections.
Let him go
He new, if he leaves PDP today, the party will bounce back and all the crisis rocking the party will disappear. He is working within to stop the party from coming out of the crisis. People should not ignore what Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State said.
