Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, dismissing insults and name-calling directed at him by political opponents.

Obi made it clear that personal attacks would not stop his ambition, insisting that he remains focused on offering himself for national service.

Reacting to criticisms against him, he declared, “Call me stupid, I’m still running for presidency,” stressing that distractions would not derail his plans.

The former Anambra State governor spoke during an interactive session with Nigerians on X Space, where he addressed questions on governance, the economy, security, and his political future.

He said he is better prepared than other aspirants to handle Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.

According to Obi, his background in business management gives him an edge. He noted that he started as a small business owner and grew his enterprise into a major corporation, an experience he said most contenders lack.

He maintained that this exposure has equipped him with practical knowledge needed to manage the country’s finances effectively.

Obi explained that economic reform remains central to solving Nigeria’s security problems. He said poverty, unemployment, and weak economic structures have fueled insecurity across the country. He argued that fixing the economy would naturally reduce crime and unrest.

Speaking further, Obi said that if elected, his administration would prioritise small businesses and local manufacturers.

He described them as the backbone of strong economies globally and promised to create an environment where they can thrive through access to funding, stable policies, and improved infrastructure.

He also addressed rumours linking him to a possible vice-presidential role within the African Democratic Congress coalition.

Obi dismissed the claims, stating clearly that he is not seeking to be a running mate. He affirmed that he would be a presidential candidate in 2027 and insisted, “I will be on the ballot in 2027.”

Despite rejecting the speculation, Obi said he supports the coalition and has been part of it from the early stages.

He explained that collaboration among like-minded individuals is necessary to rescue Nigeria, noting that political engagement requires openness and mutual respect.

While responding to concerns raised by one of his supporters from Akwa Ibom State over insults allegedly coming from leaders within the coalition, Obi urged restraint. He advised his supporters not to respond with violence or abusive language, even when provoked.

He emphasised that insults do not weaken his resolve, adding that leadership is about service, not personal attacks.
He said Nigeria’s problems cannot be solved through bullying or name-calling but by placing competent and credible people in positions of responsibility.

Reiterating his stance, Obi stated that he remains unbothered by derogatory remarks, saying that if insults could fix Nigeria, he would gladly accept them.

He urged his supporters to counter misinformation with facts and engage opponents through constructive dialogue.

Obi also encouraged his followers to remain peaceful, pray for those who attack them, and focus on promoting ideas and solutions rather than engaging in hostile exchanges.
