The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said the people of Rivers State will not repeat past political errors ahead of the 2027 general elections, signalling an early push for political mobilisation in the state.

Wike made the remark on Tuesday during a visit to Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he disclosed that political activities would commence in January 2026.

The former governor of Rivers State cautioned residents against making political choices they might later regret.

“We will not make mistakes again. The first mistake you made—have they said thank you? If you make another mistake, it means they will drive you out,” he said.

Although Wike did not mention Governor Siminalayi Fubara by name, the statement is widely seen as a veiled reference to the lingering political rift between both men.

Fubara, who took over from Wike as governor in 2023, has overseen a deeply divided political environment in Rivers State, with his administration embroiled in a prolonged power struggle over control of the state’s political structure.

The crisis eventually escalated into a constitutional standoff, culminating in the declaration of a state of emergency and Fubara’s suspension.
