The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially welcomed Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra state and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, into its fold.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, national publicity secretary of the ADC, announced the development in a post on X on Wednesday.
His words: “The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is delighted to officially welcome the former two-term Governor of Anambra State, and Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 General Election, Mr Peter Obi, to the ADC. What a way to begin the New Year!”
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party, defected to the ADC earlier today.
The move is seen as a significant boost for the ADC as opposition realignments gather pace ahead of the 2027 general election.
Political observers say Obi’s entry into the ADC could reshape calculations within the opposition bloc in the run-up to the next polls.
