Pastor Adeboye Commends Tinubu’s Response to Insecurity

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against persistent public criticism that his administration is failing to properly tackle the worsening security crisis in the country.
Speaking in Washington at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala, Adeboye maintained that the President has fulfilled his primary duty by issuing the necessary directives to the nation’s security agencies.
The cleric argued that it is unrealistic for citizens to expect a head of state to personally engage in physical combat against criminals, explaining that once a commander-in-chief hands down operational orders to the military, their institutional role has been met.
He drew comparisons to global leaders, pointing out that even the President of the United States directs military strategy from the capital without physically stepping onto the battlefield.
While offering this defense of Tinubu’s administrative actions, Adeboye also expressed worry over how far terrorism, kidnapping, and violent crime have metastasized, noting that these security challenges have aggressively spread from northern Nigeria into the southern parts of the country.
The prominent cleric disclosed that he has taken these concerns directly to the highest level, having held private discussions on the matter with both President Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. During those talks, Adeboye revealed that he offered a specific administrative remedy, advising the President to hold his security chiefs strictly accountable by giving military commanders a definitive 90-day deadline to completely eliminate terrorist activities or be forced to resign from their positions.
Turning his attention to the root causes of the violence, Adeboye also pressed the federal government to look beyond the immediate foot soldiers and aggressively target the powerful individuals funding these networks. He asserted that many of the actual sponsors of terrorism are known figures, including wealthy businessmen and politicians, who remarkably continue to move around freely without legal consequences.
According to the cleric, successfully dismantling the security threat requires a dual approach that actively confronts the perpetrators on the ground while simultaneously cutting off the supply lines of those providing weapons, ammunition, and financial backing. To help achieve this, he called on the international community, particularly the United States, to step up and provide critical support to Nigeria in its ongoing battle against insecurity.
