The Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has said that he has not concluded on the new platform with which he would seek re-election for a second term in office.
In a statement, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said the governor is pre-occupied with the coronavirus (COVID-19) challenge, which is ravaging the world at large and Nigeria in particular, urging the people to abide by government’s directives to halt the spread of the virus.
According to him, “We have not moved to any party yet, even though we are in talks with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The decision we will eventually take will be in the best interest of Edo people and our supporters.
“In the meantime, our major focus is on managing and containing the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has caused the death of hundreds of Nigerians and is stretching our healthcare system to the limits.
“We call on Edo people to adhere to the regulations emplaced to contain the virus by the State, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and other agencies of the Federal Government.”
Recall that the Governor had earlier announced the resignation of his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the wake of his unjust disqualification to run for re-election on the platform of the party.
His Deputy, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu has since followed suit, in what is expected to be an exodus of members from the APC in Edo State.
