Insecurity: Gunmen Kill Vigilante in Fresh Plateau Attack

A vigilante member has been killed in a fresh attack on Wereng-Rim community in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old Mangai Musa, was reportedly shot dead by suspected gunmen on Tuesday night.

A resident of the community, Tok Abel, said the attackers stormed the area at about 10 p.m., opened fire and killed the vigilante member before fleeing the scene.

He said the incident caused panic among residents, who ran for safety.

The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) also confirmed the killing in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong.

According to the association, Musa, a native of Wereng-Rim community, was fatally shot on the night of Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

The group said the circumstances surrounding the attack were still being investigated, describing the incident as part of a series of violent attacks targeting innocent residents of Riyom Local Government Area.

“The Berom Youth Moulders Association has received the report of another fatal attack on a Berom native in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State,” the statement read.

It added that available information indicated that the victim was killed by gunmen, while calling for urgent action to address the recurring violence in the area.
