I Can Withdraw My Support for Peter Obi, I Love Tinubu – Isaac Fayose Reacts to Backlash

Popular social commentator Isaac Fayose has reacted to the backlash that followed a viral video showing him praying with Seyi Tinubu, saying he could withdraw his support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, if he chooses.

Responding to critics, Fayose said his past support for Obi should not be taken for granted, insisting that he is free to back any candidate.

He also declared his admiration for President Bola Tinubu and his son, Seyi Tinubu.

“I can withdraw my support for Peter Obi. Do you people know how much I spent on Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign? I met Seyi Tinubu and people started complaining. Has Peter Obi ever appreciated me? If I want, I can start campaigning for President Tinubu. I’m a Yoruba man, and I love President Tinubu and his son,” Fayose said.

His latest remarks come days after he insisted that meeting with Seyi Tinubu and other supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not mean he had abandoned Peter Obi.

Fayose had revealed on his official Facebook page that he spent time with Seyi Tinubu, businessman Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, and other celebrities after an interview on Arise News.

According to him, Seyi Tinubu walked him to his car and the two prayed together, including prayers for President Tinubu and themselves.

Defending his actions at the time, Fayose maintained that political differences should not destroy personal relationships, stressing that he still supported Obi despite having cordial ties with members of the ruling APC.

He wrote, “Yes, I spent quality time with Seyi Tinubu, Cubana Chief Priest, Tosin, Prince and others last night after my interview with Arise News.

“Seyi walked me to my car and we decided to pray together. We prayed for Mr President and we prayed for ourselves.

“I love Tinubu; there is no hate in my DNA, and they accept my decision to vote and campaign for my own candidate, Peter Obi, and we still remain family. We do politics without hate. I am still 100% Obidient.”

Fayose’s earlier video led to comments as political alignments continue to shift ahead of the 2027 general election, with president Tinubu seeking a second term under the APC.

During the 2023 presidential election, Obi attracted millions of supporters, particularly young Nigerians, under the Obidient Movement after running on the platform of the Labour Party. Although he finished behind Tinubu in the official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obi and his supporters rejected the outcome and challenged the election up to the Supreme Court, arguing that the process was flawed.

The Supreme Court eventually affirmed Tinubu’s election.

Since then, Obi has remained one of the influential opposition politicians in the country and is widely seen as a potential challenger in the 2027 presidential election, as well as former vice president Atiku Abubakar.
