The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has presented the certificate of return and party flag to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state after winning the party’s governorship primary on Thursday.
Secondus presented the certificate, the INEC nomination form, and flag to Obaseki, who was accompanied by his Deputy, Philip Shaibu, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
He said the party was delighted to have the governor, who he said has seen first-hand, how the system and processes work within the PDP.
In response, Obaseki said, “All that is left for one this afternoon is to tell you how I and my deputy are grateful to this great party.
“In our hours of tribulation when we were pushed out in the raging storm you gave us the umbrella. By the grace of God, victory is going to be ours at the end of the day.
“I want Mr. Chairman to thank my co-aspirants for being gracious enough to take the painful decision to step down after committing so much.”
The governor had polled a total of 1,952 votes to emerge as the party’s candidate for the September 19 governorship election in Edo.
Also present at the ceremony were Engineer Gideon Ikhine and Mr. Kenneth Imasuangbon, the two aspirants who stepped down for governor Obaseki.
Speaking at the event, the election chairman and Governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed applauded the aspirants that stepped down for Obaseki, noting that they all pledged their commitment to work with Obaseki.
