The immediate past governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, is reportedly set to dump the Zenith Labour Party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the plan for the former governor to return to PDP was muted at a closed-door meeting between Mimiko and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state. This news platform reports that the meeting took place at Mimiko’s country home in Ondo on Sunday.
It was also gathered that both politicians talked about the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state. This newspaper reports that Makinde pleaded with Mimiko to deploy his political prowess behind the PDP candidate in the October election.
Speaking on the visit, John Paul Akimduro, media aide to Mimiko, said that ”Dr. Olusegun Mimiko is an accomplished political leader who is a role model to many politicians across party divides.
”With regards to the forthcoming Governorship election in Ondo state, I can tell you that almost all the aspirants from the different political parties have all come to see him in Ondo to specifically seek his support and mentorship.
”You must also know that Engr Seyi Makinde is a ‘brother’ to Dr. Mimiko and the two speak from time to time on various issues of national interest.
”The former Governor’s priority is for a greater Ondo state. He believes Government should be about people and service and this he has demonstrated in his 8years as Governor of the Sunshine state.”
This newspaper reports that governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his Ekiti counterpart Dr. Kayode Fayemi have equally visited Mimiko to solicit support for the APC candidate ahead of the election.
Is Gov Makinde so insensitive. He is gallivanting Edo and Ondo states while his predecessor and fellow Ibadan Indigene, a foremost citizen is being buried. What type of politics I’d this that even at death you deny your brother, a notable by all criteria the honour of a visit.
