Is GehGeh Married? The Truth Behind the Alleged Marriage, Viral Wedding Photos and Videos
Social media has been awash with reactions after controversial Nigerian content creator and self-styled relationship and finance influencer, Emmanuel Obruste, popularly known as GehGeh, appeared in viral wedding photos and videos that suggested he had secretly tied the knot.
The clips, which spread rapidly across X, Facebook, TikTok and other platforms, showed the outspoken influencer dressed in traditional wedding attire alongside a woman identified as Mary, leading many Nigerians to believe that one of the country’s most controversial voices on relationships had finally gotten married.
The speculation quickly became one of the most talked-about topics online because GehGeh has built his brand around giving bold and often controversial opinions about relationships, marriage and finances.
Many social media users accused him of contradicting his own teachings, while others congratulated him and wished him a happy married life.
However, as the rumours continued to gather momentum, different explanations emerged from GehGeh himself, while additional information later surfaced about what truly happened.
How the Marriage Rumours Started
The rumours began after GehGeh shared videos from what appeared to be a traditional wedding ceremony on his X page over the weekend. The videos showed him and a woman wearing matching burgundy traditional outfits, with GehGeh dressed in a flowing agbada decorated with black bead necklaces.
An invitation card visible in one of the clips added more weight to the speculation. The card carried the date of July 26 and stated that the traditional marriage ceremony would begin at 11 a.m. It also identified the couple as Prosper and Mary.
The videos quickly went viral, with many Nigerians concluding that GehGeh had secretly abandoned his long-held position on marriage. Fellow content creators also joined the debate, with some mocking him and accusing him of hypocrisy.
The controversy grew even bigger because GehGeh has repeatedly criticised modern relationships and often advises men to be careful before making marital commitments. For many of his critics, the wedding videos appeared to contradict the image he had created over the years.
GehGeh Responds to Criticism
As criticism intensified online, GehGeh insisted that many people had misunderstood his message on relationships.
According to him, he had never advised Nigerians against getting married.
“I never for once told y’all not to get married. Did I? If yes, show me a video of me telling you not to marry,” he wrote on social media.
Before making further clarifications, GehGeh also posted another message suggesting that he had merely attended the ceremony on behalf of a family member.
“So I no fit represent my brother wey dey abroad?” he asked in Pidgin English.
Despite those explanations, the rumours refused to die down as more wedding videos and photographs continued to circulate across social media platforms, prompting fresh questions about whether the influencer had actually married in secret.
AI Claims, Movie Reports and What Really Happened
As the speculation continued, GehGeh released another video in which he denied getting married and claimed the viral wedding content was manipulated using artificial intelligence.
Speaking in Pidgin English, he said, “Nothing wey Nigerian women never do take bring me down. Na AI. Una wan come edit me into marriage. I am now a married man. AI, thank you for organizing marriage on my behalf.”
He further alleged that some women were deliberately trying to damage his reputation because of his outspoken opinions on marriage and relationships.
GehGeh also warned Nigerians against believing everything they see online, arguing that advances in artificial intelligence have made it increasingly difficult to distinguish genuine images and videos from manipulated ones.
However, another explanation later emerged from people familiar with the production. According to reports, the viral wedding videos and photographs were actually behind-the-scenes footage from an upcoming movie project titled Our Inlaw rather than a real-life marriage ceremony.
The clarification indicated that the wedding scenes were filmed as part of the movie production, explaining why the ceremony appeared authentic and why invitation cards and traditional marriage activities featured in the clips.
