JUST IN: FG, ASUU Finally Sign MoU on Salary Increase, Improved Allowances

The Federal Government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on a 40% salary-related increase and enhanced allowances.

Speaking at the presentation of the agreement, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, explained that the 40% review would be implemented through a consolidated academic tools allowance.

He stated that the consolidated allowance covers expenses such as journal publications, conference attendance, internet services, learned society membership and book allowances.

Alausa added that the package also includes essential tools needed to support effective teaching, research and Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global academic space.

According to him, the head academic allowances, which number nine, have now been clearly structured and linked directly to duties performed, a move he said would encourage productivity, accountability and fairness.

He further noted that the revised allowance framework provides improved support for postgraduate supervision, fieldwork, clinical duties, examination moderation and leadership responsibilities within tertiary institutions.
