Doctors Allegedly Removed Kidneys From Over 10 Youths – VDM’s Lawyer

The lawyer to social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, Marshall Abubakar, has alleged that more than 10 young Nigerians may have had their kidneys removed through illegal medical procedures.

Abubakar said the alleged victims were mostly vulnerable youths who were approached through agents and taken to medical facilities under different pretexts.

He made the allegation during an appearance on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Friday.

According to him, the issue came to light after a young man approached the Martin Luther King Centre, an initiative associated with VeryDarkMan, with a medical report showing that his left kidney was missing.

Abubakar said the centre did not rely solely on the young man’s account. He explained that further medical checks were carried out to establish whether the kidney was actually absent.

He said examinations were conducted at two hospitals in Abuja, including a government-owned medical facility in Jabi.

The lawyer said the medical checks reportedly confirmed that the young man did not have his left kidney.

He further alleged that the young man had been paid about $1,300 after the procedure.

According to him, steps were also allegedly taken to conceal the identity of the victim after the operation.

He claimed that the young man’s name was changed and an affidavit was obtained in another name.

Abubakar said this raised questions about why such measures would be necessary if the medical procedure had been properly conducted and authorised.

He also alleged that the case was not an isolated incident.

According to him, investigations carried out by the centre suggested that other youths may have been targeted in areas including Masaka, Nyanya and Mararaba.

He said some of the alleged victims were reportedly recruited through intermediaries who presented the kidney donation arrangements to them.

The lawyer claimed that some of the kidneys were later sold for amounts ranging from ₦50 million to ₦70 million.

He alleged that the individuals whose kidneys were removed received only a small portion of the money involved.

Abubakar described the alleged practice as a criminal enterprise rather than legitimate organ donation.

He stressed that lawful organ donation must be based on informed consent and should not involve coercion or improper financial inducement.

The lawyer also alleged that relatives of some of the youths were not informed before the procedures were carried out.

He said some families only became aware of what had happened after the issue began receiving public attention.

However, the claims remain subject to investigation by the relevant authorities.

The reported absence of a kidney in an individual does not, by itself, establish who removed it, when the removal occurred or whether an offence was committed.

Those questions would require medical records, hospital documentation and evidence from a formal investigation.

Recall, the kidney controversy first came up after a young man identified in media reports as Ezekiel Samuel reportedly approached VeryDarkMan on August 18, claiming that one of his kidneys had been removed without his knowledge.

VeryDarkMan later said the case was among the most disturbing matters he had encountered.

“This young man came to my office on the 18/8/2026 and according to him, he went to a hospital and his kidney was removed(this is indeed one of the scariest cases I have ever involved myself in),” he said in an update on the matter.

The activist said he decided to help establish what had happened instead of relying only on the young man’s allegation.

Medical examinations were subsequently conducted, with reports indicating that scans carried out at Nisa Premier Hospital and further checks at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, showed that Samuel’s left kidney was absent.

The development prompted questions about the circumstances surrounding the missing organ.

VeryDarkMan later gave another update that added a new dimension to the case.

According to his account, attention turned to a friend who had allegedly taken Samuel to the hospital.

The friend was reportedly arrested during the investigation.

VeryDarkMan claimed that investigators discovered that the friend was also missing a kidney.

He further alleged that the friend had previously sold his kidney for ₦7 million.

The activist said the development raised concerns that other people in the area could have been involved in kidney sales.

In a statement attributed to him, he said, “We later confirmed that it was one of his friends who lured him to the hospital, where his kidney was removed.”

He added that the Nigeria Police moved to arrest the friend but allegedly discovered during the process that the man himself had lost a kidney.

“He was also found to have one kidney missing. His friend reportedly sold his own kidney for ₦7 million,” VeryDarkMan alleged.

The case was still developing as of August 27, 2026, with reports indicating that the police had arrested a suspect linked to the allegations.
