US Condemns Deadly Kwara Attack: ‘Perpetrators Must Be Brought to Justice’

The United States has strongly condemned the deadly attack in Kwara State that left more than 160 people dead.

The U.S. described the incident as a tragic act of violence and called for those behind it to face justice.

In its reaction, the American government expressed sympathy to families who lost loved ones. It also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for taking immediate steps to restore security in the affected area.

The U.S. said the killings were cruel and unacceptable. It added that protecting rural communities must remain a top priority for Nigerian authorities.

The statement welcomed the President’s decision to deploy security personnel to the troubled communities. It also supported his instruction to federal and state agencies to provide emergency assistance to victims and survivors.

According to the U.S. government, accountability is necessary to prevent future attacks and to assure citizens that justice will be served.

The statement read, “The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara state in Nigeria, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the death toll still unconfirmed and many still unaccounted for.

“We express our deepest condolences to the families of those affected by this senseless violence.

“We welcome President Tinubu’s order to deploy security forces to protect villages in the area and his directive to federal and state officials to provide aid to the community and bring the perpetrators of this atrocity to justice.”

The attack occurred between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in Woro community, located in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State. Several houses were reportedly destroyed, while many residents fled to nearby towns for safety.

Local authorities said search and rescue operations are still ongoing. Some villagers remain missing, raising fears that the casualty figure could increase.

The incident has drawn condemnation from within and outside Nigeria. Civil society groups have also called for stronger security measures in rural communities facing repeated attacks.

President Tinubu had earlier directed security agencies to intensify patrols in the area. He also ordered relief agencies to provide food, shelter, and medical support to displaced families.
