JUST IN: APC faces set-back as 900 defect to PDP in Bayelsa

The All Progressives Congress, APC has suffered a set-back in Bayelsa state after the defection of over 900 of its members to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

About 900 members of the party in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, on Tuesday, defected to PDP in protest against the emergence of Peremobowei Ebebi, a former deputy governor, as the APC senatorial candidate for the October 31 Bayelsa West Senatorial District bye-election.

The protesting APC members stormed the Tor-Orua country home of the PDP senatorial candidate for Bayelsa West and former governor of the state, Seriake Dickson, complaining that Ebebi’s emergence was a violation of the arrangement on zoning of the National Assembly seats in the senatorial district.

The defectors led by the former Chairman of the Ogobiri Youth Association, Mr. Ekadi Tonbir, were received on behalf of the state chapter of the PDP by the Sagbama Local Government Chairman of the PDP, Mr Ofoni Oyafikunmo, the Senatorial Vice Chairman, Mr Michael Magbisa, the Chairman Sagbama Local Government Area, Embeleakpo Alale.

POLITICS NIGERIA also gathered that the APC members decided to pull out of the party because of the violation of the existing agreement on the zoning of political offices between Sagbama and Ekeremor.
