A popular All Progressives Congress lawmaker representing Patigi State Constituency in Kwara State House of Assembly, Ahmed Rufai, has been sacked by the Election Petition Tribunal.
In a judgement on Monday, the tribunal sacked Rufai on three grounds of certificates forgery, inconsistency in names and age falsification, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.
The tribunal, therefore, declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PD, candidate, Sahihu Mohammed Yahaya, winner of the Patigi State Constituency Bye-Election held on March 14, 2020.
This news medium reports that the PDP and Yahaya had challenged Rufai’s victory at the tribunal. The petitioners had filed a petition on five grounds but the three judges agreed to three grounds.
Recall that the APC candidate, Rufai, in build to the election, denied forging his WAEC Certificate. He made the clarification when featured on a radio program on 22nd February 2020.
Rufai, while explaining, said that it is part of the unwholesome politics that was making round the online news which is absolutely untrue. He said he wrote NECO and WAEC respectively and categorically stated that he forged no certificate.
