Davido Faces Boycott Threats Over Adeleke’s Support for Tinubu

Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has faced calls for a boycott of his planned December concerts in Lagos following his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Politics Nigeria reports that the backlash emerged after the governor was appointed Osun coordinator of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.

The development has triggered criticism on social media, with some users threatening to stay away from Davido’s forthcoming shows over the political position taken by his uncle.

The controversy has also reopened discussions about Davido’s previous criticism of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the political differences between his earlier public statements and his uncle’s latest move.

Davido had announced plans to stage a three-night concert in Lagos in December, a development that initially generated excitement among fans looking forward to seeing the singer perform in Nigeria.

However, the announcement has since attracted political reactions, with some social media users linking their willingness to attend the concerts to the Adeleke family’s position on Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Governor Adeleke’s decision to support Tinubu has drawn attention because he belongs to the Accord Party, rather than the APC, which produced the president.

The governor reportedly declared his support for Tinubu during the inauguration of the president’s campaign council at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

He maintained that the president required another four years to consolidate the economic reforms introduced by his administration.

His position has generated mixed reactions, particularly among supporters who expected him to remain opposed to the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.

The singer announced on X on Thursday that he would perform at the National Theatre in Lagos for three consecutive nights, from December 17 to 19.

The event, titled Oriadè: The Residency, is expected to celebrate his return to Nigeria and mark 15 years of his career in the music industry.

Davido said the performances would feature songs from his latest album, Oriadè, alongside tracks from his previous projects.

The three-night residency is expected to attract fans from different parts of the country, particularly during the December entertainment season in Lagos.

However, the announcement has become entangled in the ongoing political debate surrounding his uncle’s support for Tinubu.

Some social media users have threatened to boycott the shows, arguing that their decision to attend would depend partly on the political choices of the Adeleke family.

Others have mocked the singer, suggesting that his family’s political connections and supporters of the ruling party should provide the audience for the concerts.

The controversy has also brought back an earlier post in which Davido criticised supporters of the APC during the Osun governorship election campaign.

The singer had written, “Anybody supporting APC in Osun state is an enemy of progress ! Lessons will be learnt this weekend.”

The statement is now being cited by social media users who question the contrast between Davido’s position during the election and his uncle’s decision to support Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.

During the August 2026 Osun governorship election, Davido openly supported Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party.

The singer was vocal on social media as political tensions rose during the election and the collation of results.

Davido also expressed opposition to the APC during the period. In another post, he declared, “I CAN NEVER SUPPORT APC IN MY LIFE !!!”

In August, Davido posted a message directed at his uncle, urging him to avoid supporting any presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election.

He wrote, “No more supporting any presidential candidate @AAdeleke_01 make we Dey our Dey!!!”

The singer later deleted the post, but it had already attracted widespread attention.

However, other Nigerians have urged the public not to hold Davido responsible for his uncle’s political decisions.

They argue that the singer is an independent public figure and should be judged by his own statements and actions rather than the choices of another member of his family.

As of the time of filing this report, Davido had not publicly responded to the boycott threats linked to Adeleke’s support for Tinubu.
