Nigerians attack Buhari over threats to unleash Civil War-like terror

Several Nigerians on social media have chided President Muhammadu Buhari over a recent statement, wherein he promised to relive the memories of the 1967 civil war.

“I receive daily security reports on the attacks on critical national infrastructure, and it is very clear that those behind them want this administration to fail. Whoever wants the destruction of the system will soon have the shock of their lives. We’ve given them enough time.”

“Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,” President Muhammadu Buhari posted via his twitter account, warning against the burning of INEC offices across the country on Tuesday.

“I have assured INEC that we will make available to them everything they need to operate efficiently, so that no one will say we don’t want to go, or that we want a third term. There will be no excuse for failure. We will meet all of INEC’s demands,” he also stated.

The statement has however generated furore on social media as Nigerians accused President Buhari of threatening to rain civil war-like terror. Also known as the Biafran war, the Nigerian Civil War, which lasted two years and six months, saw to the killing of thousands of people.

The war fought between the government of Nigeria headed by General Yakubu Gowon and the secessionist state of Biafra led by Lt. Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu from 6 July 1967 to 15 January 1970.

While many condemned the President for threatening war, some others demanded that he should be banned from the social media community for spreading hate speech.

Below are reactions;

Never in my life, did I ever believe that the President of my county will be threatening citizens from the South East on social media with civil war treatment.

Meanwhile, president Buhari, has never spoken this tough to killer Fulani heardsmen, Boko Haram and bandits.

“Buhari’s reputation is already sealed for all of posterity, but what saddens me are the people around him who will forever be tarnished by their association with his genocidal statements.”

“When Buhari speaks to bandits, He begs them. He appeals to them.”

“But when Buhari speaks to citizens, He threatens us. He uses language that can be used to justify harm,” violence and massacre against the same people he swore to protect.”

“Please RT for the world to help Nigeria.”

…”will treat them in the language they understand”.
– General Buhari
“Well, you deployed the language on #20-10-20, so your threat is familiar”

“Civil war that killed plus or minus 3m Igbos 51yrs ago, and still hurting so many people is what President Buhari is using to threatening people in 2021, while Boko haram members are getting rehabilitated, bandits & killer herdsmen are getting stern warnings, it’s so unbelievable.”

“I said Buhari has reached the peak yesterday just for him to set another record today. He is going to be the first democratic President threatening ‘war’ on internet. This is all you get for electing a coup plotter.”

“At the end of Buhari’s 8 years in office, every Nigerian alive deserves and should get a certificate of survival.”

“No matter how dumb the South Western Governors are, they won’t take this type of threat from Buhari lightly. Buhari does this to the East often, because they have greedy lots for leaders. Even the recent No-grazing resolution meeting in Delta wasn’t their initiative.”
