APC Blocking Electronic Results Transmission Over Fear of Losing Elections — Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of resisting electronic transmission of election results out of fear it could lose future elections.

Amaechi urged opposition parties to unite and take a firm stand against what he described as an attempt by a single party to dominate Nigeria’s electoral process.

“I believe that the opposition parties should come out, PDP, ADC, everybody should be out, to protest against the attempt of one party,” he said.

Addressing claims that protests could be hijacked by opposition forces, Amaechi questioned the APC’s own record, saying, “If we come out, and they say the opposition has hijacked the protest, what is APC doing? Are they not hijacking? What are they afraid of? I thought they said they have 31 governors. Tinubu is not Jonathan. The only way a good politician will know he has done well is by the people.”

Amaechi also expressed puzzlement over why the ruling party feels threatened despite its control of several states and high-profile defections from opposition parties.

He voiced skepticism that Senate President Godswill Akpabio or President Bola Tinubu would address the concerns of Nigerians, stressing that opposition parties and civil society groups would continue their push until the decision is overturned.

Meanwhile, security was tightened around the National Assembly on Tuesday, with operatives of the Nigeria Police Force blocking major access roads ahead of an emergency plenary session called by the Senate.

The ongoing protest, which began on Monday, is being coordinated by human rights activist Aisha Yusuf alongside various civil society organisations.
