The Nigerian Army has effected the successful capture of a top informant for the Islamic State West African province(ISWAP), who spied and passed information about the movement of security operatives to terrorists.
The suspect, simply identified as Goni Fandam has been on the wanted list of security agencies in the country since 2020 before he was arrested in Borno recently.
According to PR Nigeria, the criminal was account after military intelligence monitored his communications with senior ISWAP commanders.
The suspect was part of dozens of informants on monthly remuneration of N250,000 just for providing the terrorist group with information on military posts and movements.
In addition, he provided terrorists with information on travellers between Jakana and Auno as well as between Maiduguri and Damaturu.
Major DY Chiwar led the team that picked up the suspect.
