Lai Mohammed: There’s no human rights abuse in Nigeria

Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, said contrary to what people abroad think, there is no human rights abuse in Nigeria.

While receiving members of Nigerians in the Diaspora Organization (NIDO) in Abuja, Mohammed also stated that the Federal Government doesn’t encourage religious persecution, as being speculated in the media.

According to the minister, some Nigerians have been making desperate attempts in the diasporas peddling fake news and misinformation about Nigeria.

He, however, urged NIDO to be wary of those bent on painting Nigeria bad in the comity of nations, especially in the area of insecurity.

Mohammed’s words: “It is in recognition of the relevance of Nigerians in Diaspora that the secessionist groups that are campaigning around the world for their causes have identified and are effectively using some of them (Nigerians in Diaspora) to propagate their fake narratives about the country, in addition to relying on their financial contributions to fund their nefarious activities. This is disheartening.

“Instead of contributing their own quota to these efforts, all you hear from a section of Nigerians in the Diaspora and their allies back home are fake narratives and untrue allegations of religious persecution, political marginalisation, human rights abuses, etc. These are baseless and false.

“As an organised and well-connected group, I implore NIDO to leverage its contacts in government circles, parliamentary groups, and global think-tanks in world capitals to help change the narrative and sweep the carpet off the feet of secessionist groups, insurgents, and anarchists who are bent on pushing false narratives to portray Nigeria in a bad light. I have no doubt that you will take this call seriously and do everything in your power to change the narrative for the better.”

  1. Lai Mohammed, will always lie,yes they have traveled and they have seen too(diasporas),their words is out experience,Oga lie pls embrace the Truth

  2. A liar cannot change unless Christ eventually touches that liar. Unfortunately for this liar his case looks like a tall order. There is no human right abuse now because his brutalist friend is in power but during Jonathan regime we had the freest regime he called lots name nobody molested him or arrested him but today it is the other way round. Killing and destruction, kidnapping, Fulani herdsmen rampaging , sponsored banditry, injustice, nepotism Nigeria has become government for the Fulanis and by the Fulanis.
