Emilio Ballack, the 18-year-old son of Michael Ballack, has been killed in an accident.
Emilio breathed his last at about 2 a.m. local time Thursday in Troia, south of the capital of Lisbon, Portugal, near a house his father bought several years ago.
Portuguese media reported the deceased had been riding on an uneven piece of land near the Ballack family home, when the bike rolled backwards and fell on top of him.
Michael Ballack played for FC Bayern from 2002 to 2006. He also turned out for Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea. The three-time German Footballer of the Year won the league and cup double with FC Bayern Munich in 2003, 2005 and 2006.
Fans, colleagues and friends across the globe have been expressing their sympathy and support for the Ballack family.
Michael Ballack is best known for his long-ranger shooting ability.
