“You don’t start investigation by abducting or arresting a person” – El-Rufai

Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State, has slammed the security and anti-graft agencies over a futile attempt to arrest him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time Show, the chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said arrests should be made after investigations have been concluded by relevant agencies.

Describing the attempt to arrest him upon his return from Cairo, Egypt on Thursday as abduction, El-Rufai accused the agencies of violating his human rights.

“In a civilised country, you don’t start an investigation by abducting a person or even arresting a person and keeping him while you’re investigating.

“It’s a violation of human rights, you do your investigation, financial records today are highly electronic, you do your investigation and you get your records,” El-Rufai said.

Asked, how he was not sure the anti-graft agency had done their investigation before moving to arrest him, the former governor said, “They have done their investigation and found nothing.”

“I will go to them, I’ve been around this system, I know what’s going on even in those institutions, so I have an idea of what’s going on,” the former governor said.

He also suggested that officers of these agencies would usuallyadvise some of the politicians in their custody to go and settle with those in authority.

“Look some of the professionals in these institutions feel very bad that they are been compelled and when some of my guys that been invited or abducted face them, when they finish all the questions, they tell them look we are sorry but this is all political. Why don’t you guys go and settle with them?

“Settling with them means what? Submit to be a member of APC, and agree that Tinubu will have a second term. That’s what it is,” he added.
