‘I Am Not Kwankwaso’s Enemy’ — Ganduje Reacts to Yusuf’s Defection to APC

Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has dismissed claims that he is an enemy of NNPP leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso following the defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the APC.

Ganduje said there was no personal conflict between him and Kwankwaso. He described their relationship as that of brothers, not rivals.

His reaction came after Kwankwaso accused Governor Yusuf of betrayal for leaving the New Nigeria Peoples Party.

Ganduje spoke while paying a condolence visit to former Kano governor Ibrahim Shekarau over the death of his brother. During the visit, he addressed the controversy surrounding the governor’s political move.

“He considers me an enemy, but I am not his enemy; I am his brother,” Ganduje said.

He also rejected Kwankwaso’s description of the defection as a betrayal. Ganduje said the same date should be seen as a moment of liberation for Governor Yusuf.

“If he chooses to regard the day the governor left the NNPP, January 22, as ‘World Betrayal Day,’ then we will celebrate it as the day the governor gained his freedom.”
