VP Shettima departs Abuja for Kano to condole with Singer Market fire victims

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday departed Abuja for Kano State to commiserate with families of the victims of the weekend fire outbreak in the Singer Market fire disaster in the state.
Stanley Nkwocha, the media aide to the vice president in a statement said his principal departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, en route to Kano at the instance of President Bola Tinubu.
According to Nkwocha, the vice president will be leading a high-powered Federal Government delegation to express condolences and support for the victims of the Singer Market fire disaster in the state.
He said the visit, which was approved by President Tinubu, directs the delegation to also make a financial pledge in support of the victims’ families and the state of Kano State.
The assistance, according to the president’s directive will help the Kano State government in the effort to swiftly reopen the market.
Members of the delegation include the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State; Senator Kawu Ismaila; and Abubakar Kabir Bichi, the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.
Others include the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, and former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege.
“Afterwards, the Vice President is scheduled to receive the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, into the All Progressives Congress fold, following his notice of defection to the APC weeks earlier,” Nkwocha said.
Recall that the Singer Market in Kano was engulfed in a massive fire outbreak leading to the loss of goods and businesses worth over N5 billion.
Sources within the city also stated that seven people, who are mostly traders are still missing following the fire incident.
A particular trader at the market, who identified himself as Musa Ibrahin was said to have lost goods worth over N340 million.
