Businesswoman lands in Jail for Cheating in Abuja

A businesswoman, Nkechi Anyanwu has been remanded in prison custody over alleged cheating.

Judge Abdullahi Jibril, delivered the Judgment in an upper area court in Kubwa after Anyanwu pleaded not guilty to breach of trust, cheating and injurious falsehood.

It was gathered that on June 1st, one Basirat Abdulkareem reported the matter at the Area Command Headquarters, Kubwa.

According to prosecuting counsel, John Okpa, the defendant allegedly deceived the complainant and collected N1 million from her sometime in August, 2020 claiming to invest same in her Duchess travelling and tour company.

He added that the defendant assured the complainant of paying her 20 per cent monthly interest of the said sum which was false. The defendant eventually stopped taking the complainant’s phone calls adding that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312, 322 and 393 of the Penal Code.
