Popular Hausa singer, Magajiya Dambatta, has died aged 86.
The entertainer passed on after a brief illness at her home in Dambatta in Kano State on Friday evening.
The deceased, who later became blind, rose to stardom in the 1970s to 1980s.
Late Dambatta’s songs revolved round importance of education, good moral values, and child upbringing. She also often condemn social vices, among others.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Hausas are one of the largest ethnic groups in Nigeria. Their folk music has played an important part in the development of Nigerian music, especially through the creation of the popular one-stringed instrument known as the ‘Goje’.
