Orji Kalu Vows to Oppose Alex Otti in 2027 Abia Governorship Race

Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor

Kalu, has announced that he will work against the re-election of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, in the 2027 governorship contest.

Kalu said his decision is based on party loyalty and political responsibility, not personal disagreement with the governor. He explained that politics must follow party lines, even when personal relationships exist.

The senator spoke during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, where he addressed questions about his relationship with the Abia governor and the coming election.

Kalu stated that he still enjoys a cordial relationship with Otti and believes that political rivalry should not affect friendship. He emphasized that both men belong to different political parties and must work for their respective platforms.

“I always believe if he wants to be his party, be your party and vote for your party. I’m a member of APC. I will work for APC. He should work for Labour Party. We should not lose friendship,” Kalu said.

He added that his main concern is the peace and political stability of Abia State. According to him, disagreement at the ballot box should not turn into personal conflict.

Despite acknowledging Otti’s right to govern, Kalu made it clear that the All Progressives Congress will present a candidate in 2027 and he will actively support that choice.

“I will oppose it because my party will be fielding a candidate. That’s it. It is about the interest of the party,” he stated.

Kalu also noted that opposition is a normal part of democracy and does not amount to hostility. He described the coming election as a contest of ideas and party strength, not a fight between individuals.
