Former media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has expressed his surprise that prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi is a free man in Nigeria.
Omokri slammed the Nigerian federal government for going after bandits, while turning a blind eye to ‘an inspiration to terrorists’, Gumi. Gumi is known to have access to bandits and had once asked the federal government to grant them blanket amnesty.
Commenting on the recent calls to declare the bandits as terrorists, Gumi, in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, said there will be severe consequences if the government does so.
The cleric also said the terrorism tag on the bandits would attract some unemployed youths.
Now, Omokri has questioned why Gumi never speaks up when ordinary Nigerians are victimised by bandits.
“Sheikh Gumi never speaks for the victims. But when terrorists bandits are affected, he speaks. How long shall a government that is after Igboho and Kanu continue tolerating the PR work Gumi is doing for terrorists bandits? Gumi is an inspiration to these terrorists,” Omokri wrote on his verified Twitter page on Monday.
