Controller of the Lagos Passport Command Milka Musa said on Monday that there are around 13,800 uncollected passports at the Lagos Passport offices.
Around 12,300 were uncollected at the Ikoyi passport office, while about 1,500 were at the Festac office. She also added that the Ikeja passport office has also been dealing with a similar issue.
Mrs Musa implored the applicants, who had applied in any of the passport offices before September 2021, to pick up their passports at the respective offices of application.
She continued by confirming that the Passport Control Officer (PCO) in charge of each office had sent text messages as a reminder to those applicants.
“However, based on the volume of the uncollected passports, I believe the applicants had forgotten they applied for a passport. And these may be the category of applicants who were in haste when they came to apply, “Musa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) is appealing to these applicants to come and collect their passports,” she said.
Mrs Musa asked future applicants to be more aware and assured that there is no need to be worried when applying or renewing their passports.
“Nigerians should stop being in a haste when they come to apply for passports because the series of operations and security checks involved before issuance could not be carried out in seconds,” said Mrs Musa.
