“National Assembly now a prison for Nigerians” – Former IPAC Chair Ameh

The former chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, Peter Ameh, has condemned the actions of the ruling Party’s lawmakers over the controversial Electoral Act amendment debate.

Ameh in a statement issued on Wednesday accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its members of unleashing savage tyranny on the National Assembly.

According to Ameh, these lawmakers in their numbers have turned the hallowed chambers into a prison for the people.

He said, “The brutal tyranny of the majority — that’s exactly what the APC is shamelessly inflicting on the National Assembly right now.”

Ameh also noted that it has become obvious that the APC are afraid of credible and transparent elections and, as such, has resorted to frustrating the nation’s electoral process and democracy.

Further noting that tyranny has no place in Nigeria’s political space, Ameh said that such a move by the lawmakers of the ruling party will be crushed by the people in the forthcoming elections.

He said, “They (APC members) are mortally afraid of transparent, credible elections because they are widely despised, thoroughly rejected, and utterly detested by the vast majority of Nigerians.
The resolute, fed-up people will obliterate them at the ballot box.

“Majoritarian tyranny has no place in our democracy.

“The awakened people will crush and decisively defeat them come 2027,” Ameh noted.
