Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has removed the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Joseph Egbunike as the head of the team for the Anambra State Governorship election which comes up on Saturday.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that no reason was given by authorities for the removal of Egbunike. Egbunike is an indigene of Anambra State.
Acting Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Zaki Ahmed replaces DIG Egbunike.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) attached to the Anambra Election Monitoring Team, DSP Nkeiruka Nwode while announcing the sudden change of baton said the development would not affect the conduct of the Anambra 2021 gubernatorial election.
The atmosphere in Anambra State ahead of tomorrow’s gubernatorial election is a mixture of anxiety, fear and hope as the question of who succeeds Willie Obiano as governor hovers. Obiano is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third consecutive term.
