All hands on deck needed to solve security concerns, Gov Makinde says

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde encouraged the Army to provide ideas and solutions to improve national security on Wednesday at the 4th Quarter Army Headquarters Veteran Affairs Directorate Seminar 2021.

Represented by his Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi, the governor also said Nigeria needs contribution from people from all walks of life to help solve its security issues, saying: “There are many talents among the retirees, many of whom are retired but not tired and the workshop will do well to explore these skills and expose participants to the Nigerian values that they can take pride in.”

He said that retirees had a lot of potentials and that the seminar should focus on exposing them to Nigerian values.

“Most of these retirees are very tangible assets to sustaining national security and the workshop will help provide them with practical tools to cope with retirement and help in restoring national security.”

In his introductory comments, Lt Gen Farouk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff, noted that Army retirees have “intrinsic capabilities” due to their long years of service and the expertise they gained while they serve.

Lt Gen Yahaya, represented by Army Chief of Administration Maj Gen Usman Mohammed, also noted that veterans were more connected to society and citizens.
