JUST IN: Gov Okpebholo Appoints Actress Mercy Johnson as Special Adviser

The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Nollywood star Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.

Politics Nigeria reports that the announcement was made on Thursday through a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor.

The governor said the appointment is aimed at improving communication between the government and residents of the state. The role will focus on public awareness, advocacy, and citizen involvement in government programmes and policies.

Part of the statement read:
“This is to inform the general public that Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Mercy Johnson-Okojie as Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy.”

The government described Johnson-Okojie as a respected figure with strong influence across communities. It noted that her wide reach would help bridge the gap between the state administration and the people.

“Johnson-Okojie is an accomplished Nigerian actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. She is one of Nollywood’s most celebrated figures, with a career spanning nearly two decades and featuring in over 200 films.

“Through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, she has championed causes focused on women empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach.”

Ikhilor added that her experience in humanitarian work and public interaction would support the administration’s goal of inclusive governance.

Mercy Johnson-Okojie is married to Odianosen Okogie, a member of the House of Representatives, representing Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency.

Consequently, her appointment has generated reactions across social media, with many residents welcoming the decision.
