“No Godfathers Here!” – IPOB Vows to Block APC Candidate Imposition in Abia

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) over alleged plans to impose candidates in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group said it would resist any move that threatens the will of the people in the South-East. It described such actions as dangerous and capable of creating political tension in the region.
In a statement released on Sunday and signed by its Southeast Welfare Coordinator, Osinachi Obi, IPOB accused some APC leaders of trying to control political structures in Abia State through what it called undemocratic methods.
IPOB said it is closely watching political developments in the South-East and will not allow any party to force candidates on the people.
“We have noticed the irresponsible behaviors linked to these individuals concerning the upcoming 2027 elections, and IPOB will not allow them to create chaos in Biafraland in the future. lPOB will never tolerate any imposition of candidates by APC in any S’ East region, particularly in Abia State,” the group stated.
The organisation directly accused the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, of working to trigger political unrest in Abia State for personal political gain.
It also mentioned Chris Nkwonta, the lawmaker representing Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency, alleging that he is promoting division within his constituency to secure political advantage.
“The worldwide family and movement of the indigenous Biafran people is closely monitoring the actions of APC in the southeast and will not accept their attempts to undermine the citizens’ choice which Benjamin Kalu to instigate chaos in Abia State and Christ Nkwonta in the Ukwa West and East constituencies for the purpose of establishing their puppets,” IPOB said.
The group stressed that Abia State does not recognise political godfathers and warned that any attempt to use former governors or powerful figures to influence the 2027 elections would be rejected.
IPOB further accused some APC politicians of deliberately creating conflicts in local government areas to weaken unity and make elections easier to manipulate.
“APC’s plans will undermine their integrity, if they possess any, as godfatherism is not permitted in the South East Region States, including Abia state, where Benjamin Kalu and Christ Nkwonta aim to leverage former governors to succeed,” the statement added.
“These people are attempting to ignite conflicts in their particular states and in Abia State to foster divisions, making it easier for them to manipulate elections against the will of the people.”
“Another APC candidate for the House of Reps, representing Okwa East and West federal constituency, Chris Nkwonta is actively instigating conflicts in the two local government councils that comprise the constituency he represents.”
IPOB concluded by warning that it would not remain silent if political actors continue what it described as efforts to destabilise the South-East.
