Lead counsel to Biafra separatist, Nnamdi Kanu, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) on Wednesday complained about his client’s deteriorating sight to Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
According to Ozekhome, Kanu may go blind if nothing was urgently done, as his glasses are nowhere to be found.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the trial of separatist leader resumed on Wednesday afternoon. The Abia-born activist is charged with 15 crimes, including terrorism, treason, incitement and operating an unlawful group. Kanu, who heads the outlawed separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Also, Ozekhome argued on Wednesday that his client, Kanu, was extraordinarily renditioned. He said offences allegedly committed by Kanu has no basis, adding that where and when they committed were not stated in the charges. He also stated that Nigeria has no territorial jurisdiction.
Protests calling for his release are taking place around Europe today, including in Germany, in front of the United Nations (UN) buildings in Bonn.
