A Grade I Area Court, Dei-Dei, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old labourer, Abdulrahub Yusuf to eight months imprisonment for stealing cooking pots and a gas cylinder.
Yusuf, pleaded guilty to house breaking and theft and begged for leniency.
The Judge, Malam Sulyman Ola, however gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N30,000, and warned him to be a law abiding citizen.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olaonipekun Babajide told the court that the complainant, Rita Iliya reported the matter at the Galadima Police station on Feb. 11.
Babajide said the convict broke into the complainant’s house in Galadima, Abuja and stole her cooking pots and gas cylinder worth N7, 000.
He said that during police interrogation and investigation, the convict confessed to the crime and the pots were recovered from him but all effort made to recover the cylinder failed.
The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
