More than 200 terrorists, known locally as bandits, have been killed by security agents in Niger State in the last four days.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal Security, Emmanuel Umar made this known on Wednesday during a briefing on the security situation in the state.
According to him, four bandits groups have been operating in the state. Umar gave their names as; Bello Turji, Yellow Janbros, Kachalla Halilu and Ali Kawaje terrorist groups.
Furthermore, he said two security operatives died during the recent encounters with the bandits.
Northern Nigeria region is suffering from an intense and destabilising conflict. The crisis has displaced many citizens, and led to the shuttering of hundreds of schools and colleges across the region.
Authorities are currently engaged in a renewed crackdown on banditry, deploying soldiers and promoting anti-bandit vigilantes.
