Popular Nigerian broadcaster dies four days after birthday [PHOTO]

Veteran journalist and former Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) Public Relations Officer (PRO), Fabio Olanipekun, is dead.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Olanipekun who clocked 80 last Wednesday passed away on Sunday.

He was hailed as a journalist who was able to easily switch from print media to television where he made his mark with Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) and later the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

The late media personality is a vastly-travelled professional, who rose to the position of Manager, Sports at NTA before his retirement.

The cause and place of his death cannot yet be determined.

Reacting to his death, one of Olanipekun’s mentees and Ogun State 2023 gubernatorial aspirant, Modele Sarafa-Yusuf wrote on her known Twitter handle: “I mourn the death of my former boss & mentor, Fabio Lanipekun who passed away today- 4 days after his 80th birthday.

“Fabio encouraged my move from NTA Ibadan to Lagos, burnished my skills and taught me hardwork & discipline.
May God grant him peaceful repose & bless his family.

“A cerebral, hard-working & no nonsense boss, Fabio gave us opportunities to shine- knowing as he did, that our light did not dim his own. I was with him on his 79th birthday-along with some of my former colleagues but missed his 80th as I was declaring for Gov on the same day.”
