JUST IN: Kanu opens up on IPOB’s leadership

Kingsley ‘Kanunta’ Kanu, brother of Nnamdi Kanu, founder of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Saturday asserted that his sibling is “the only leader” of the organisation.

Recall POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that Sofia Chinyere Kalu is being rumoured to be the new leader of IPOB, following Nnamdi Kanu’s purported removal by IPOB’s Directorate of States (DoS). But the detained separatist leader’s brother has now come out to deny the reports.

“#MaziNnamdiKanu is the ONLY leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB),” Kingsley wrote on his known social media pages. “We should learn to address issues and not to create one because, we’ve lost men in this struggle and we are still losing men.

“A butterfly can never call itself a bird. Biafra is a spirit.”

Nnamdi Kanu, presently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja, is a British-Nigerian political activist who advocates for the secession and independence of Biafra from Nigeria. He founded IPOB in 2014.

The group says its main aim is to create the separatist state of Biafra which they agitated for in Nigeria’s Eastern Region during the country’s Civil War of 1967–1970.
