About 20 People have lost their lives in the Guni-Zumba River while attempting to escape an attack by Bandits.
The victims, comprising of women and children were escaping an attack by armed bandits in the Kurbaku and Guni communities in Munya LGA of Niger when the boat conveying them capsized.
The sad incident occurred on Wednesday morning when bandits simultaneously invaded the two communities, forcing the villagers to run helter-skelter.
The victims were crossing the river to reach an IDP camp for safety.
A resident told newsmen; “Bandits invaded our communities this morning, and in an attempt to flee, some people drowned in Guni-Zumba river. Due to overloading, the boat capsized in the middle of the water.”
We have not been able to rescue anybody but I can tell you that over 20 people, including women and children, were involved.”
