Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has congratulated the Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna, Most Reverend (Dr.) Mathew Man-Oso Ndagaso over his election as the new President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the former vice president urged Ndagoso to commit his presidency to the time-tested principles of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria.

He also called on the new CBCN president to work with well-meaning Nigerians and other democratic institutions across the country to promote transparency and orderliness before, during and after the 2027 elections.

He also wished the new President of the CBCN a successful tenure and good health of mind and body as he takes on this huge task.

Further commending the association for being an exemplary institution on democratic transition, and a strong national moral voice, Atiku said the Bishops have continued to advocate for national peace, good governance, credible elections and care for the vulnerable members of the society.

He also reaffirmed his committment to Nigerian Christians as they observe the Lenten season, noting that the commencement of the Lenten season and Ramadan this year on the same date is an indication that God does not discriminate, but unites people through His ways.

‘‘We thank God for this year’s gift of the Lenten season which has reminded us all of the necessary sacrifices and life of charity we need to live and promote for the good of humanity and our relationship with God our creator.,” Atiku said.

The ADC chieftain expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of the Catholic Church in Nigeria for serving as collaborators in nation-building.
