Rivers Governor Fubara Makes Key Cabinet Appointments

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed a new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and a new Chief of Staff at Government House, Port Harcourt.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Governor Fubara named Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the new SSG and Barrister Sunny Ewule as his Chief of Staff.

The appointments, contained in a Special Government Announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, take immediate effect.

No reasons were provided for the removal of the previous officeholders. The statement noted that the new appointees are scheduled to be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.

“The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Dr Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the Secretary to the State Government and Barrister Sunny Ewule as the Chief of Staff. Both appointments are with immediate effect. The new appointees will be sworn in at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, February 26, 2026,” the statement read.

According to reports, Wokoma replaces Mr Benibo Anabraba, while Ewule takes over from Edison Ehie. Ehie’s position had been under speculation, especially following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the political crisis in Rivers State, with sources suggesting he had been acting behind the scenes.

Last week, the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, confirmed during plenary that the Assembly had officially withdrawn impeachment proceedings against Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, following the President’s intervention.

The appointments follow Fubara’s recent dissolution of his cabinet of eight commissioners and the dismissal of all his Special Advisers.
