Fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Wednesday evening attacked Kornari village, about three kilometers to Burutai in Biu Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State, POLITICS NIGERIA has learnt.
According to sources, a heavy gun battle occurred between the insurgents and vigilante group members.
The attack occurred around 8pm.
The terrorists in large number were on gun-trucks and motorcycles.
Meanwhile, at least 72 Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters have surrendered to the Nigerian military in the northeast of Dikwa, Borno state.
The terrorists were received by the troops of Operation Hadin Kai after they voluntarily surrendered on Wednesday.
The suspects reportedly claimed to be tired of the unending bombardments of their hideouts. Military sources say they would be carefully profiled before undergoing rehabilitation.
