“I Stand by PDP” – Atiku’s Son Declares He Won’t Defect to APC in Adamawa

Adamu Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has distanced himself from the recent wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State.

The Adamawa State Commissioner for Works was not part of the group of commissioners who followed Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to publicly announce their move from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

His absence immediately drew attention, especially as more senior government officials in the state aligned with the ruling party.

Political sources within the state government confirmed that Adamu has chosen to remain in the PDP despite pressure to defect alongside his colleagues.

Although he has not released a formal statement, aides close to him said his decision reflects loyalty to his political roots and the legacy of his father within the opposition party.

Observers say his stance could reshape internal political calculations in Adamawa State, where the APC is making efforts to consolidate control ahead of future elections.

The defection of Governor Fintiri and several commissioners has already triggered reactions across party lines, with PDP leaders expressing concern over the growing influence of the APC in the North-East.

Adamu’s refusal to join the defection train positions him as one of the few top officials still holding the PDP structure within the state executive council.
