“2027 election will be Tinubu/APC vs Nigerians” – Atiku predicts

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president of Nigeria and two-time presidential candidate has said that the 2027 general elections will be between Nigerians and President Bola Tinubu and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku made this prediction while reacting to the defection of the governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on Friday.

In a statement issued by his media office, the former vice president said the current political alignment witnessed within the polity is not new.

He stated that every politician has the legal right to choose a path he deems fit for his ambition.

Citing his son’s recent defection to the ruling party, Atiku also stated that he respects the decision which the Adamawa state governor has taken concerning his political career.

He, however, noted that anyone — including his son — who chooses to stand with Nigerians rather than the APC is standing on the side of patriotism.

The African Democratic Congress chieftain further warned that the wave of defections by opposition governors is not a sign of APC strength.

According to him, such realignment towards the ruling party is evidence of pressure and intimidation.

In addition, Atiku accused the Tinubu government of weaponising state institutions to bully political opponents in a desperate bid to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

“This government fears accountability. It fears credible elections. It fears the people,” Atiku said.

He firmly asserted that no amount of coercion can erase the daily hardship Nigerians face, including the spiking hunger, crushing poverty, worsening insecurity, and mass unemployment caused by the failed economic policies of the present administration.

“Governors may defect for personal survival. Nigerians are defecting in their millions because they want survival.”

“What will the APC campaign on in 2027 — hunger? hardship? hopelessness?” he queried.

Urging Nigerians to desist from selling the power which ultimately belongs to them in the form of vote-buying, Atiku said that in due time, the people must prevail.

“Do not trade your future. Do not mortgage your children’s tomorrow. In 2027, the people will have their say — and their will shall prevail,” he noted.
