Owo Massacre: ‘War has been declared on Yoruba people’ – Prof. Akintoye

Following an attack by terrorists on Sunday morning at a Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, the Leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Professor Banji Akintoye, has said some people have declared war on the Yoruba ethnic group.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that suspected terrorists blew up St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, the headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Many worshippers died and several others have been left injured following the explosion and shooting at the church which is situated close to the palace of the Olowo of Owo.

The attack has left many people shocked as such is rarely recorded in the Southwest region of Nigeria.

“Today, we have all been encircled, most especially, in Lagos. For Herdsmen to have the effrontery of bombarding a Church in Yoruba Land to kill about 85 people shows that we are now in a realistic danger,” Akintoye said via a statement by the Communications Secretary of Ilana Omo Oodua, Maxwell Adeleye.

“My urgent advise to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is to pick up the gauntlet and declare an emergency against the activities of all Fulani H+erdsmen in the state with immediate effect.”
