2023: “Bloody bigot!” – Adeyanju attacks El-Rufai over Muslim-Muslim ticket

Deji Adeyanju, a prominent social commentator, on Saturday, criticised Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over his comment that a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will not be a problem in the 2023 election.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that El Rufai said in an interview with Channels Television on Friday that the “fixation” of Nigerians on the religion of political office holders is “pathetic and sad”.

With the election of presidential candidates of political parties, there have been concerns about the religion of the candidates and their intended running mates.

According to El Rufai, Nigerians should be concerned about competence – and not the religion of the President or Vice-President (VP).

But the Kaduna State governor’s stance has not been well-received by the majority of social media users and public commentators.

“If it is true that competence is more important than religious consideration in a multi-religious country according to El Rufai, why not allow Bola Tinubu (the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congres, APC) pick a Christian from South East as VP? Bloody bigots determined to divide Nigerians along religious lines,” Adeyanju wrote on his verified Facebook page.
