2027 Election: Taraba Govt Orders Appointees, Civil Servants to Resign

The government of Taraba State has issued a fresh directive to political appointees and civil servants who plan to contest in the 2027 general elections.

The order instructs all affected officials to resign their positions immediately, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.

The announcement was made through a statement from the Office of the Special Adviser on Political Matters and Special Duties.

The government explained that the law requires any public officer seeking an elective position to step down within the legally approved period before taking part in party primaries or any stage of the electoral process.

The statement, signed by Josiah Sabo Kente, said the resignation requirement is not a mere formality. It described it as a key measure meant to promote fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all aspirants.

According to the government, public officers who ignore the directive risk facing legal consequences. These may include disqualification by the appropriate electoral authorities.

The administration of Agbu Kefas reaffirmed its commitment to constitutional order and democratic standards.

It stated that the state would not compromise on political discipline or the full enforcement of existing electoral laws.

The government also commended public servants for their dedication to service. It wished those with political ambitions success, provided they follow the rules set out by law.
