A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, on Saturday said it will be difficult for Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to accept the Vice-Presidential role of the Labour Party (LP).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Peter Obi is the presidential flagbearer of the LP and is understood to be in talks with Kwankwaso over a possible merger in respect of the 2023 election.
The NNPP said on Saturday that talks with the LP and Obi, to form a possible coalition are still in progress.
According to the party, a committee was set up to lead the discussion.
Kwankwaso also confirmed the development in an interview with BBC Hausa.
Reacting to the development, Omokri said the fact that the LP ‘does not have as many already elected officials as Kwankwaso’s NNPP’ might hinder the Kano-born politician accepting to drop his presidential ambition.
Omokri wrote on his verified Twitter handle: “While not impossible, it will be hard for Kwankwaso to accept to be a Vice Presidential candidate in a merger with a party that does not have as many already elected officials as his NNPP. Especially when Kano, his catchment area, has the largest votes in Nigeria.”
What Mr. Omokri should know is that Mr. Obi is a Nigerian tsunami waiting to happen. A big storm is forming and Mr. Kwakwanzo better know how to collapse his enterprise and join the moving train as a running mate.
